What is CUET UG 2027?
CUET (Common University Entrance Test) UG is the centralised entrance exam for admission to undergraduate programmes at central universities, state universities and other participating institutions across India. Conducted by NTA, CUET UG has rapidly become one of the most important exams for Class 12 students aiming for top universities like DU, JNU, BHU and many more.
CUET 2027 will follow a computer-based test (CBT) format with sections covering Language, Domain Subjects and an optional General Test. This guide covers everything you need for a winning CUET 2027 preparation strategy.
CUET UG 2027 Exam Structure
- Section IA (Language): 13 Indian languages — attempt 1 out of 13
- Section IB (Foreign Language): Optional additional language
- Section II (Domain Subjects): 27 subjects — choose based on your program requirements
- Section III (General Test): Optional — required for some courses and universities
- Format: MCQ-based, 50 questions — 60 minutes per section
- Total Marks per Subject: 250
- Marking: +5 for correct, −1 for incorrect
📚 Key Strategy: CUET marking is +5/−1 — generous compared to JEE and NEET. Each subject section has 50 questions in 60 minutes with a total of 250 marks. Focus on accuracy first, then build speed to maximize your score.
How to Choose Your CUET Domain Subjects
This is the most important decision in your CUET preparation. Your domain subject choices must align with your target university course requirements.
- Identify your target courses and universities — look up the admission requirements for each program you want
- Check which domain subjects are mandatory — different universities have different requirements for the same course
- Choose based on Class 12 subjects — CUET domain syllabus is largely NCERT Class 12 based
- Don't over-select subjects — focus on 3–4 domain subjects and do them well
Popular Domain Subject Combinations
- Science (PCM): Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics — for engineering/science courses
- Science (PCB): Physics, Chemistry, Biology — for medical/life science courses
- Commerce: Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics — for B.Com, BBA
- Humanities: History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Psychology — for BA programmes
Subject-Wise CUET Preparation Strategy
Language Section Strategy
The Language section tests reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. Practice reading dense passages quickly and answering questions accurately. Use past CUET Language papers to get familiar with question patterns. Focus on reading speed and inference-based comprehension skills.
Domain Subject Strategy
The domain section is entirely NCERT Class 12 based. If you have studied your Class 12 subjects well, the domain section should feel familiar. Here is how to ace it:
- Read NCERT Class 12 thoroughly for each domain subject — cover every chapter
- Solve CUET PYQs subject-wise to understand question patterns
- Focus on factual, definition and application-based questions
- Attempt topic-wise mock tests on Study Grid Prep to identify and fix weak chapters
- Revise NCERT tables, diagrams and important facts regularly
General Test Strategy
The General Test covers General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Quantitative Reasoning, Logical Reasoning and General Mental Ability. If your target course requires it, dedicate 30–45 minutes daily to GK and reasoning practice. Read a quality newspaper regularly and solve reasoning puzzles.
💡 CUET vs Board Exams: Many students underestimate CUET because the syllabus overlaps with Class 12. However, CUET's MCQ format and time pressure are very different from board exams. Regular CUET-specific mock practice is essential.
6-Month CUET 2027 Study Plan
Months 1–2: NCERT Foundation
Cover your selected domain subjects chapter by chapter from NCERT. Make concise notes on key facts, definitions and important points. Do not skip any chapter — CUET has asked questions from seemingly minor topics.
Months 3–4: Practice and PYQs
Start solving topic-wise CUET PYQs and practice question banks. Take subject-wise mock tests on Study Grid Prep weekly. Use AI analysis after each mock to identify which chapters need more revision. Also begin Language and General Test practice during this phase.
Months 5–6: Full Mocks + Revision
Shift to full-length CUET mock tests. Aim for at least 2–3 full mocks per week. Focus heavily on speed — the 45-minute time limit per section requires quick, accurate answering. Revise NCERT notes and address weak areas identified by AI analysis.
Time Management During CUET Preparation
With CUET's 60-minute section-wise format, time management is critical. Practice answering 50 questions in 60 minutes — just over 1 minute per question. Build this speed through regular timed mock practice.
- Morning (1.5 hrs): Domain subject — NCERT reading or PYQ practice
- Afternoon (1.5 hrs): Second domain subject
- Evening (1 hr): Language section practice + General Test
- Night (1 hr): Full section timed mock or revision

Common CUET Preparation Mistakes
- Selecting too many domain subjects — leads to poor coverage of all
- Not checking university-specific CUET requirements before choosing subjects
- Studying from non-NCERT sources for domain subjects — CUET is strictly NCERT-based
- Neglecting the Language section — it is high-scoring and often overlooked
- Not taking timed mock tests — CUET's time limit trips up many students
- Starting preparation too late — CUET requires at least 4–6 months of focused prep
🎯 Remember: CUET is one of the few exams where thorough NCERT study directly translates into high scores. If you know your NCERT well and practice with CUET-pattern mocks, you have an excellent chance of scoring 90%+.
